What is the best way to find the puppy will fit your family?
My cousin went about the wrong way; they purchased their
dog from a "Puppy Mill" in the midwest sight
unseen! They sent their money and picked up this adorable
dachsund appropriately named Riley. He lives "the
life of Riley". In Las Vegas you take your chances;
and in life there is serendipity. But veterinarians emphasize
that a family pet is a serious commitment and should be
approached with careful consideration .
Ideally, you should at least check out the parents of
the puppy so that you can get an idea of what the puppy's
temperament will be.
There are tests for dysplacia ( a genetic malformation
of joints and bones), PRA, progressive retinal atrophy,
a condition leading to blindness, congenital heart defects,
etc. All of these conditions can be ruled out before you
get "stuck" with a puppy you're in love with.
